Accident Sickness Unemployment Insurance Can Help You Weather A StormOne of the biggest threats to a person’s livelihood is the possibility of being in an accident which leads to short-term or even long-term unemployment. Americans have gotten out of the habit of saving, with very few families having at least six months of living expenses saved. This can send a household into a tailspin when an unexpected emergency occurs.
One of the ways to be prepared for such situations is to have accident sickness unemployment insurance. This type of coverage is also referred to as mortgage insurance or ASU and it will provide you with a steady income if you are out of work due to an illness, accident or a layoff. One advantage to having accident sickness unemployment insurance is that you can choose the benefit amount that you wish to receive. Of course, this will determine your premium payments, so be sure to choose a plan where the payments are comfortable to make now. Any type of insurance is to prepare you for the unexpected but should not create a financial strain in order to maintain the coverage. The benefits are usually paid during a 12 to 24 month period. Some policies will allow you to carry accident sickness unemployment insurance, or you can elect to have only one type of coverage. For example, you may only want to have accident insurance because of the hazards you deal with on your job. This brings a level of security as you go to work each day. If an emergency occurs, you will be able to maintain your expenses while you recover. There are certain criteria which must be met that will determine your eligibility for accident sickness unemployment insurance. There are age limits to people who are between 18 and 65 years old. There are waiting periods which apply depending on the type of policy that you have. Some plans may be retroactive to the first day of the month. Others may require that you be out of work for at least 30 days before benefits will begin. Still others can be back dated as far as 90 days. The waiting period is also a determining factor in the amount of your premium. Regardless of which category you fall into, it is reassuring to know that you have some type of assistance which you can rely on to get you through a troubled time. The circumstances related to being sick, unemployed or in an accident are stressful enough. You do not want your recovery to be delayed from worrying about paying the bills.
